Novel Titles

I'm fairly new on this forum and I believe I have neglected to post anything yet. Anyway, Cordelia was so kind as to offer me a subforum for explaining and working with the world I am creating for my novel. However, in order to do so I need to have some kind of title, even a working one, for both the novel itself and the galaxy it takes place in. After reading and re-reading what I have done so far I am unable to pin down a decent title. I've gone online and read articles about choosing a good title that means something, other than just sounding cool. I have not had any luck.

I realize that good titles are based on either the character, the theme of the novel, or a specific element crucial to the story itself - like Mass Effect revolving around the "Mass Effect" altering technology.

Since there is a TON of stuff to explain, I'll try to give a brief overview of the story without giving too much away. Ok, so the story takes place in a futuristic society akin to Mass Effect, or Star Trek. However, governments are independent of one another and a species' home planet is off-limits for colonization (not taking over) by other species. However, provided a planet can support a species, they may colonize it alongside other planets' governments. Of course, disputes often break out and meetings between governments take place to settle these disputes and set grounds for each species/government to colonize, provided war does not break out California Gold Rush style. However, there is one planet (it does not have a name yet) that kind of resembles the citadel. It is a two-biosphere, dual atmosphere, two-level synthetic, hollow planet that serves as a neutral meeting-ground for all species. Here is the only place governments overlap and all species are given spaces to colonize after heated deliberation. I'll talk about that in the actual forum.

So that's a rough idea of the setting. Humans are at the level, or close to, the same technological level as most other races, but live no longer primarily on Earth. The home planet for humans is Titan, a massive three-world cluster in the Leviathan's Tail Galaxy. Earth is a war-ravaged, desolate wasteland in the middle of a civil war, nuclear winter, and genocidal plague. Lovely vacation destination, eh? Anyway, two "governments" grapple for control over the meager population of under 6 million. Most died off or fled. However, these governments only control 4.5 million in total. The resulting population is the terminally-ill population of "Rogues." There are different clans of Rogues but they are hated by other clans and both governments.

The main character is a Rogue named Caine Westfall. He has no family and cannot remember any time he had one. Caine is a 18-year-old male that uses martial arts to survive because he has no weaponry. He is a master of Kali, Muay Thai, Hapkido, Kendo, and Kung-Fu. Throughout his life he has been shot 72 times and his body - primarily his chest - is heavily scarred because of it. Due to his rough up-bringing he suffers from personality disorders and PTSD.

Right, so that's a bit of a snippet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, Caine means "Hunter."

IDK, I would say wait for the title after you actually get close to finishing up. Or so my YouTube Writing coach says.

What is the main path of the story? The main plot line? The struggle between differing species, the fight over a planet, or the path the main character takes? (Just think. Don't answer here, unless you want to) All this will greatly influence the story title.

Also take into account what sort of story titles appeal to you in particular. When you pick up a book and look at it's cover, what would grab your interest more? A title that is quite specific to the story, or something vague and cryptic?  But even vague and cryptic will give the reader some idea about what the pages inside is going to offer them.

I would generally NOT use the main character's name in the title, unless they were already known to the reader, or feature pretty much on every page of the novel.

Also think about perhaps there being more than one book in the series.

Try to keep it short and to the point. Two to three words is always a nice length.
